We’ve always believed in the power of research and innovation to drive meaningful change.

Back in 2011, our founder, Dr Olga Kozlova, recognised the challenges faced by academics in transforming pioneering research and innovation into impactful businesses, and set out to change that.

By working in close collaboration with Scotland’s universities, we’ve been privileged to help a diverse community of aspiring academic founders to launch their businesses.

Converge is in the unique position of being the only organisation of its kind working across Scotland’s university sector.

Meet our experienced team.

Adam Kosterka

Executive Director

Adam joined Converge in 2017 having previously held a number of business advisor roles with Business Gateway and Scottish Enterprise. He became Deputy Director in 2021 and was appointed to the role of Executive Director in December 2024.

Drawing on his expertise in supporting founders, business management and leadership, Adam spearheads Converge’s strategic growth plans which include enhanced support for sustainable business creation and increased focus on attracting international talent to Scotland’s innovation ecosystem.

Adam holds a Masters Degree in Business Management from Edinburgh Napier University and recently completed an MBA in Global Leadership Training at Heriot-Watt University.

Lissa heads up our Enterprise team and is responsible for the delivery of our outreach and training programme. As a Converge alumna, she has invaluable knowledge and expertise of the journey that our participants undertake, leveraging this insight to optimise alumni relations.

Before joining Converge, Lissa commercialised a research project from The Roslin Institute into a business unit at Roslin Technologies Limited and has in-depth experience of working with spin-outs and commercialisation of research.


Sam Trett, Enterprise Manager, Converge

Enterprise Manager

Sam joined Converge as Enterprise Manager in 2025 to support enterprise teams and students across the central belt of Scotland.

Before joining Converge, Sam founded and exited a business in the spirits industry, led the recovery of a former AIM listed FMCG business and consulted SMEs across a variety of sectors. Working as an Incubator Manager for Edinburgh Business School and Entrepreneur in Residence at Heriot Watt University, he has extensive experience supporting start-ups from concept to commercialisation.

 

Sheik Abdul Malik

Enterprise Executive - West

Malik joined Converge in 2023 and leads enterprise support and strategic partnerships in the West of Scotland region.

A Doctoral researcher at the University of Strathclyde specialising in advanced composite materials and aeronautical engineering, Malik has made significant contributions to innovation through his research including being named as a co-inventor on a patent stemming from his doctoral work.

He is deeply engaged in Scotland’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, having founded an airsports company and Strathclyde Hot Air Balloons and has organised a number of TEDx conferences in the UK and US.

Maisie Keogh

Enterprise Executive for Impact - National

Maisie works across both Converge and The Challenges Group, supporting socially driven, mission-led businesses that are creating impact across diverse sectors. Her work focuses on identifying and nurturing early-stage ventures with strong potential for innovation and societal benefit.

During her PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Maisie managed the Sir Jules Thorn Centre for the Co-Creation of Rehabilitation Technology, with her research on stroke rehabilitation technology receiving national recognition, including coverage on BBC Click. Her doctoral work has been widely published and contributes to advancing the use of technology in healthcare recovery.

Maisie holds an MSc in Biofluid Mechanics and a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Glasgow. In 2024, she was awarded a prestigious Churchill Fellowship in recognition of her commitment to global learning and innovation. She is particularly passionate about empowering more women to pursue entrepreneurship and leadership in science and technology.

Richard Cormack-Corrigan

Richard supports university enterprise development teams in the North East of Scotland and is based at the University of Aberdeen.

Before joining Converge, Richard worked for Young Enterprise Scotland's Elevator UK programme promoting enterprise and entrepreneurship in education and designing and delivering a range of accelerator programmes.

 

Maria Blanco-Alvarez

Senior Admin Assistant

Maria supports the delivery of our programme and is responsible for financial processing, reporting, co-ordination, administration and logistics support.

Maria has extensive work experience in Higher Education administration including the University of Edinburgh.

Georgia Goodall

With 20 years’ experience under her belt, including eight years working in London at a variety of creative agencies, Georgia brings a blend of practical, hands-on skills and strategic focus.

A s a former co-founder of a start-up, Georgia also has first-hand experience of the challenges and rewards of building a brand from the ground up.

Georgia's remit is broad and covers PR, external communications and content marketing.

Kathryn is an experienced marketing and events professional with a strong track record in PR, communications and event production. During her career she has held senior roles in major communications agencies and event production companies, latterly running her own successful event management business.

Jen joined Converge in 2013 and is our longest serving team member.

Specialising in brand strategy, Jen oversees all visual aspects of the Converge brand, creating impactful brand experiences that resonate with our target audiences. Additionally, Jen oversees a wide range of other marketing activities including social media and digital marketing.

Our dynamic and experienced Strategic Advisory Board provide advice and guidance on Converge's strategic direction. Their experience is exceptionally broad covering everything from private sector and start-up activities; international business; policy and funding; investment and university commercialisation.

Polly Purvis OBE, FRSE

Converge Chair

Highly regarded within Scotland's technology community, Polly headed up ScotlandIS, the trade body for digital technologies, helping to establish the digital skills academy, CodeClan, in 2015. 

Committed to raising the profile of Scotland's tech sector and tackling the skills shortage and gender gap, she was awarded an OBE for her services to industry. In recognition of her distinguished career, she was also named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE).  

In 2019 she spent two years working with leading agritech business Intelligent Growth Solutions (IGS), a leading vertical farming company based at The James Hutton Institute, as Scotland Director, and is now Chair of Digital Xtra and a board member of Edinburgh Science.  She holds an honorary doctorate of technology from the University of Abertay.

 

Prof. Richard Williams

Professor Richard A Williams OBE FREng FTSE is the Principal and Vice Chancellor of Heriot-Watt University.  He is Vice President of the Royal Academy of Engineering. His background is an academic and entrepreneur working in mineral, energy storage systems and environmental technologies. He has founded several business including two plcs and previously served as an elected member on Council of CBI in Yorkshire and the West Midlands. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK) and a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (Australia). He is a trustee of the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland and Advisory Board member of the Lloyds Register Foundation.

Leah Head of Scottish Enterprise’s (SE) High Growth Services within the Entrepreneurship and Investment Directorate. This includes responsibility for a range of teams within SE who are focussed on delivering specialist services, projects and programmes to support the commercialisation of university spinouts, a portfolio of around 200 high growth start-ups and scale ups and a number of high growth entrepreneurship projects and programmes.

Beginning his career as a clinical nurse in Edinburgh, Professor Miller is the first nurse to be appointed as a University Principal and Vice-Chancellor in Scotland – bringing a wealth of experience, values and vision closely aligned with that of UWS.

Professor Miller was Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University from August 2015 to November 2022 and previously held a range of other senior roles, including Director of the Open University in Scotland and Chief Executive of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. 

He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, a member of the Institute of Directors, a member of the International Advisory Board for the Amity University Group in India, and was a founder member of the British Council’s Digital Advisory Board.

Neil Logan is an experienced board-level leader, technologist, and entrepreneur with a track record of scaling high-growth, purpose-driven businesses. As co-founder and former CEO of Incremental Group, he led the company from start-up to successful acquisition by Telefónica Tech in 2022, building one of the UK’s leading digital transformation consultancies.

With over 25 years of experience in technology and leadership, Neil brings deep expertise in digital strategy, software engineering, and data science, and organisational growth. He is a Visiting Professor at the University of Strathclyde, where he champions innovation and industry collaboration.

Neil currently serves as a non-executive director and advisor across multiple organisations, supporting strategic development, governance, and growth.

 

uzma khan

Uzma Khan

VP for Economic Development & Innovation University of Glasgow

Uzma Khan is Vice-Principal for Economic Development and Innovation, and Deputy Chief Operating Officer at the University of Glasgow.

 As the Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Uzma oversees a number of professional services directorates and supports the COO in the effective delivery of corporate functions within a large organisation. 

In her capacity as Vice-Principal, Uzma has responsibility for ensuring the effective delivery of the University’s innovation ambitions and its impact on the city, region and wider economy. 

Prior to joining the Higher Education sector, Uzma spent over 20 years in the civil service as a professional economist in Scottish Government advising across several policy areas and leading on Scotland’s economic strategy.  

 

Professor Andy Porter

Professor Andrew Porter has a wealth of experience within both industry and academia. He was the founding CSO at Haptogen Ltd, which eventually sold to Wyeth/Pfizer Inc, was one of the founders of the biologics drug discovery company Elasmogen, and also holds Non-Executive positions in a number of life science and other businesses including Roslin Technologies Ltd (Chair), MicroPlate Dx Ltd and more recently NCIMB Ltd.  

Andy is Professor of Medical Biotechnology at the University of Aberdeen and Director of the Scottish Biologics Facility.  Away from the life sciences he is also a founding Director of Langstane Liquor Ltd and more recently, during lockdown, the multi-award winning WhiteBox Cocktails Ltd (both now located in Edinburgh).

Alexander is a UK and US corporate lawyer with a particular passion for high growth start-up companies and new businesses, supporting companies and founders from start-up, through investment and exit. He also regularly advises investors on funding start-ups and has assisted a number of UK clients to expand or set up in the US. 

Alexander is an active member of the Royal Company of Merchants of Edinburgh, sitting on the Court as an assistant and is a mentor as part of its Enterprise Programme as well as being a TechScaler mentor.

 

Heather May Morgan, Dean of Enterprise, University of Aberdeen

Heather was appointed as the University of Aberdeen’s first Dean for Enterprise and Innovation in April 2023. Heather has an academic background: she is a multidisciplinary social scientist whose formal training spans law, French language, forensic medicine, philosophy, gender studies, social research, sociology, criminology and health services research.

Heather specialises in digital health and qualitative research and has over fifteen years of postgraduate experience in University research and teaching, extending now to Computing Science, Biological Sciences and with a cross-University remit in Enterprise and Innovation education, advocacy and support. Heather has won multiple prizes for public engagement with research, co-developed hardware products and software solutions with academic and industry partners and recently co-founded a charity specialising in FGM Education.

 

David Brown

Former Director of Strategic Partnerships University of Edinburgh

As a former Partner at PwC, David has extensive advisory experience in the public sector and financial services industries specialising in strategy and large-scale transformations.

He also served as Director of Strategic Partnerships for the University of Edinburgh and has had a number of external roles including Trustee Board member for NCUB and member of the CBI Scotland advisory panel.

 

Margaret Morton

Director of Strategy & Development Enable Scotland

Margaret has held a variety of executive, non-executive and advisory roles across the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors over 30 years. She enjoyed successful careers in law, latterly as a partner of a Scottish law firm, in philanthropy, as Head of Fundraising at Barnardo’s Scotland, and in venture philanthropy, as Head of Investor Relations at Inspiring Scotland, before joining the University of Glasgow, initially as Chief of Staff in the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences and then as XPRIZE Lead for the University, and is currently Director of Strategy and Development at Enable. Margaret is passionate about entrepreneurship, innovation and the translation of research into real world impact.
